GRADOV Georgy Alexandrovich
The activities of young architects were marked by a significant increase in creative activity. During this period, G.A. Gradov, A.M. Albansky, V.V. Veryuzhsky, V.K. Zmievsky, P.P. Ivanov, S.X. Saakyan, F.P. Steblin, and others worked fruitfully in Frunze. The architects faced the task of organized collaboration of creative efforts aimed at increasing the effectiveness of architectural developments.
On March 20, 1938, the first conference of architects took place in Frunze, where the Kyrgyz branch of the Union of Architects of the USSR was established. The conference discussed the methods and forms of activity of the young organization aimed at exploring new architectural paths and actively participating in the processes of socialist transformation in Kyrgyzstan. The first board of the republican union was headed by architect G.A. Gradov.
Years of life (1911 —1984). Architect G.A. Gradov, member of the CPSU, Doctor of Architecture, professor, participant in the Great Patriotic War. He arrived in Kyrgyzstan in 1936 with the first group of young certified specialists-architects. Under the guidance of G.A. Gradov, the newly organized collective of architects in the republic activated a creative atmosphere—architectural competitions were held, historical architectural heritage was studied, and the natural and climatic features of Kyrgyzstan were researched. With his participation, a number of public building projects were created, the architecture of which received a lively response not only in the republic but also from the Union of Architects in Moscow.
The most significant completed work of G.A. Gradov in Frunze was the building of the Green Theater in Red Star Park (now Panfilov Park), completed in 1940. Unfortunately, the building was demolished due to the reconstruction of the city center. The architecture of this work expressed the architects' search during that period in the field of classical and national heritage. The open-air hall accommodated 800 spectators, with good visibility and acoustics from all seats. Kyrgyz national ornamentation was widely used in the decoration.
The short but fruitful period of G.A. Gradov's creative path associated with Kyrgyzstan ended in 1941 when the progressive development of Soviet architecture was interrupted by the Great Patriotic War. He, like many young architects of the republic—A.M. Albansky, M.A. Milov, V.E. Nusov, I.F. Prishchepa, P.P. Ivanov, V.K. Zmievsky, F.P. Steblin, and others—went to fulfill his duty.
