Hunting of wild animals is prohibited in some regions of Kyrgyzstan

The State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (GAOOSiLH) has suspended sport and amateur hunting of wild ungulates in selected areas. This was reported by the hunting department of GAOOSiLH.

According to the department, the traditional hunting season opened on August 23 in the hunting grounds of Kyrgyzstan.

"However, this hunting season has some restrictions on wild ungulates. Thus, for local residents, the conduct of sport and amateur hunting on all species of ungulates is temporarily suspended in selected areas of all regions. The corresponding order was signed by the director of GAOOSiLH, Sabir Atadjanov, on August 12 in response to requests from government representatives in the regions, local state administrations, and the local population for the purpose of preserving and reproducing wildlife," the agency explained.

Thus, the conduct of sport and amateur hunting on all species of wild ungulates in the hunting season for 2014-2016 has been suspended in the following areas: Uzgen, Nookat, and Kara-Suu in the Osh region; Suzak and Bazar-Korgon in the Jalal-Abad region; Kara-Buura and Manas in the Talas region; At-Bashy, Ak-Tala, and Naryn in the Naryn region; Sokuluk, Alamudun, and Issyk-Ata in the Chui region; in the Laylak district of the Batken region and in all districts of the Issyk-Kul region.

The order also states that previously issued permits for special use of wildlife in the above-mentioned territories are considered invalid.

"Every year, the hunting season opens at the end of August. Hunters are allowed to hunt quails, pigeons, doves, and others. From September 9, hunting begins for mountain sheep, ibex, wild boar, etc. As stated in the order for the temporary suspension of sport and amateur hunting, local residents of the specified areas are temporarily prohibited from hunting all species of wild ungulates, while hunting for all species of birds is allowed. The daily bag limit for birds for one hunter is no more than three heads. It should also be noted that every Tuesday and Wednesday are declared quiet days, meaning that hunting is completely prohibited on these days," explained Almaz Musaev, deputy director of the hunting department.
