In 2025, 8 small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 44.59 MW were officially opened in Kyrgyzstan, as reported in a press release from the Ministry of Energy.
Among these stations, the "Kara-Kul" HPP stands out, which belongs to JSC "Chakan HPP." The opening ceremony took place on October 27, 2025, and the event was attended by the country's president, Sadyr Japarov.

In addition, JSC "Chakan HPP" is actively continuing the construction of three new hydropower plants: Ortokoy, Papanskaya, and Ildyk Tar. Although small hydropower plants cannot fully replace large energy facilities, they play an important role in enhancing the country's energy security and reducing electricity shortages.

According to the ministry, in 2025, the small hydropower plants of Kyrgyzstan produced over 400 million kWh of electricity, of which more than 41 million kWh was generated by the new plants opened last year.

The statement also emphasizes that JSC "Chakan HPP" plans to continue developing the small hydropower sector, building new facilities, and enhancing the reliability of existing capacities.
