During a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Kubanychbek Samakov raised the issue of high interest rates on loans in commercial banks. He noted that these institutions offer loans at 15%-20% per annum, while international financial organizations provide loans to Kyrgyzstan at a rate of only 0.5%-1%, which are then ratified by parliament.
“What is the reason for this gap? What measures are being taken to reduce it?” he inquired.
The deputy's question was answered by the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank, Medet Tairov, who pointed out that international financial institutions provide loans at 1% in foreign currency, as well as offer infrastructure and concessional loans.
He added that deposit rates in the country have also risen to 15%. At the same time, loan rates in soms are higher, while in foreign currency they are lower — in dollars, they average 7%-8%.
