In Kyrgyzstan, there is a decrease in the crime rate, as confirmed by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Erkebek Ashirkhodzhaev at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee dedicated to issues of the judicial system, law enforcement, the fight against crime, and corruption.

According to him, both the number of criminal cases and the number of defendants have decreased. At the same time, most offenses are committed by individuals with previous convictions.

Ashirkhodzhaev emphasized that, for example, if a person has been caught stealing 10 times, they can get away with a fine each time. However, if a new law is adopted, after two offenses, more serious measures will be applied to the offender upon the third violation.

In the Deputy Minister's opinion, the return of the recidivism institution could play an important role in crime prevention, as often the same individual commits offenses.

The Committee has already reviewed and approved amendments to the codes aimed at restoring the recidivism institution in criminal law.
