
The Nipah virus is a deadly disease for which there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment.
Recently, a local outbreak of the disease was recorded in West Bengal: five cases have been confirmed, including a doctor, a nurse, and a healthcare worker. As a result, about 100 people who were in contact with the infected individuals have been placed under quarantine.
Nipah is a zoonotic virus capable of causing severe encephalitis and respiratory diseases. Major outbreaks of the infection are observed in South and Southeast Asia. According to the WHO, the mortality rate from the virus ranges from 40% to 75%.
