In the city of Kyzyl-Kiya, a 20-year-old guy was taken to an old car market and extorted for money — police conducted arrests

In the Batken region, a criminal investigation has been initiated regarding a case of extortion, and suspects have been detained.

According to the press service of the regional police department, on January 20, 2026, a 20-year-old man from the village of Airybaz, located in the Kadamjay district, reported to the police. In his statement, he mentioned that on January 7, around 10:00 PM, a citizen named Ö. and three of his accomplices forcibly made him get into a "Daewoo Lanos" car in Kyzyl-Kiya, after which they took him to an old car market and, threatening him with a knife, demanded 50,000 soms.

Additionally, the young man had his iPhone 8 stolen, and then through third parties, he was coerced into transferring 5,000 soms. The criminals also threatened him via an app, forcing him to top up his mobile phone balance with another 5,000 soms, and according to the victim's words, they continued to demand the remaining amount.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been opened under Article 208 ("Extortion") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During operational-search activities conducted by the employees of the Department for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Batken Regional Police Department, on January 27, six residents of Kyzyl-Kiya were detained in the village of Kaltak (within the Uch-Korgon rural district of the Kadamjay district), among them 20-year-old M.Ö. and 22-year-olds G.N., M.S., S.J., as well as 24-year-old A.B. and one other person.

As a result of the investigation, M.Ö., G.N., and M.S. were placed in a temporary detention facility based on Articles 96–97 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Investigative activities are ongoing.
