According to representatives of SpaceX, this project is the first step towards creating a civilization that corresponds to the Kardashev II level. It will be capable of harnessing the full power of solar energy while simultaneously supporting artificial intelligence applications for billions of people today, paving the way for humanity's multi-planetary future. These statements were submitted to the Federal Communications Commission and covered by Bloomberg.
According to the materials presented, the system will be launched using reusable Starship rockets, making it a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional ground data centers. This solution is intended to meet the growing demand for data in the field of artificial intelligence.
Unlike ground cooling systems that require large volumes of water, the space network will utilize radiative cooling, allowing for efficient heat dissipation. This will also reduce the need for batteries, as the network will receive electricity directly from the sun, as stated in the documents.
Satellites will be positioned at altitudes ranging from 500 to 2000 kilometers and will use laser communication to exchange data with each other, ensuring they have almost constant access to solar energy.
