In Kyrgyzstan, there are almost 2 million cars

According to information provided by the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Meder Mashiev, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee, there are 1 million 909 thousand 61 registered vehicles in Kyrgyzstan.

According to the minister, the growth of the vehicle fleet in the country is 13%, which creates certain environmental problems. The structure of the vehicles includes: 972 thousand gasoline cars, 339 thousand diesel cars, 56 thousand gas cars, and 37 thousand hybrid vehicles.

Mashiev also noted that in 2025, 15 thousand 278 electric vehicles were imported into the republic, which is only 0.8% of the total number. The share of vehicles less than five years old increased from 1.5% in 2024 to 4.5% this year.

In the public transport fleet of Bishkek, there are 1 thousand 447 gas buses, 120 electric buses, and 12 standard 12-meter buses. Additionally, more than 100 electric charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed in the capital, the minister added.

Speaking about the causes of smog in Bishkek, Meder Mashiev pointed to the following factors:

▪️ Coal burning in the private sector – 40%

▪️ Old vehicles – 30%

▪️ CHPs and boiler houses – 15%

▪️ Dust storms – 13.5%

▪️ Emissions from industrial enterprises – 1.5%

The minister noted that over the past two years, air quality in Bishkek has improved, partly due to the ongoing gasification efforts.

He reported that interest rates on preferential loans for gasification have been reduced from 8% to 3%, and 150 million soms are allocated annually from the state budget for this program. In Bishkek, 54 residential areas have been gasified, and last year, 36 thousand subscribers were connected to the system.

Mashiev added that last year, coal consumption decreased by 100 thousand tons; however, about 97 thousand households continue to use it.
