Kubanych Barat uulu, a 31-year-old resident of the village of Ming-Chynar in the Kadamjay district of the Batken region, has been engaged in the strawberry business for four years, which brings him income.

Despite the fact that very few people in this region engage in this type of agriculture, he has managed to organize year-round berry cultivation, working both in winter and summer.

“In 2022, I underwent specialized training, and in 2023, I built a greenhouse, inspired by ideas from neighboring Uzbekistan. There, we purchased all the necessary materials and gained knowledge. Initially, we started with the Korean strawberry variety ‘Sokhen,’ which performed very well. Now we have switched to the ‘Kabirello’ variety, the seedlings of which we brought from Osh, and it is currently ripening. The greenhouse is equipped with a heating system, which we provide using underfloor heating with coal. We use about 300 kilograms of fuel every day. I constantly participate in seminars and continue my education,” Kubanych explained.

Previously, Kubanych sold his products in Osh, but now he sells strawberries in stores in Batken. Currently, the price of strawberries ranges from 1500 soms per kilogram, while in winter it can reach 2000 soms, and by April it drops to 700-800 soms.

“Our greenhouse has a drip irrigation system, and its area is 10 acres. We have also planted strawberries on additional plots—90 and 15 acres—where the first harvest will begin to ripen in April,” added Barat uulu.

According to him, from 10 acres of the greenhouse, more than 500 kilograms of berries can be harvested, and from one hectare—up to 25 tons.
