Villagers rented land plots from the local government fund and began to cultivate strawberries. Last year, they harvested over 100 tons and were able to export their products to Russia and Kazakhstan, earning them about 17 million soms. This year, local farmers adopted new soil processing methods, studied the necessary fertilizers, and underwent training through a special program, which significantly increased their yield. As a result, they exported approximately 200 tons of strawberries and earned 34 million soms.
The cooperative grows 3-4 varieties of strawberries, including "Alba," "Asia," "Clery," and "Albion." The average price of strawberries this year was 170 soms per kilogram. The cooperative employs 28 people, and the total area of the crops is 20 hectares. Thanks to the use of drip irrigation, they managed to avoid problems with water shortages. "If it weren't for drip irrigation, there would be interruptions in water supply," noted cooperative member Marlen Dinmukhammed uulu.
The harvested 200 tons of strawberries are being exported to Russia and Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2023, the Kyrgyz Republic exported strawberries worth $825 thousand.
The Ministry believes that to reach the mark of $1 billion by 2030, it is necessary to export strawberries worth $143 million annually starting this year. Only with this approach will domestic producers be able to reach this goal in 7 years.
Strawberry prices fluctuate between 250 and 1000 soms per kilogram depending on the season.
