Talas Farmers Sound the Alarm Over Falling Purchase Prices for Beans

- In 2014, purchase prices rose to 70 soms. The international prices for beans are set on the exchange in Turkey. There, the figures are also low, which affects the price of the products we grow. Compared to previous years, there are not many buyers in the region, so the competition is very weak. Currently, about 15 companies from Serbia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, and Macedonia are purchasing legumes, - reported the regional state administration.
The agency also noted that due to the current situation, local farmers are holding protest actions. Their main demand is to significantly raise the purchase prices for beans.
- The leadership of the region, and even the republic, cannot influence this situation: it is a global issue. Last Friday, the governor gathered all the entrepreneurs who procure and export beans and asked them to raise the price. But this is impossible. On October 21, there will be a major discussion on this topic. We are inviting Turkish procurers to the meeting. We hope for the best! - the agency added.
It should be noted that this year, Talas farmers harvested 94 thousand tons of beans from 53 thousand hectares, which is significantly more than last year.
