Today, September 27, the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Joomart Otorbaev, inspected the progress of the development of the Burgondin massif in the Kadamjai district of the Batken region. The Minister of Agriculture and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Talaybek Aidaraliev, informed the Prime Minister that last year over 80 million soms were allocated for the development, this year it is planned to allocate over 120 million soms, and in 2015 — over 125 million soms, with the goal of completing all irrigation works by the fall of 2015. These funds will be directed towards the creation of an irrigation network for the massif.
Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev instructed the contractors to complete all work on time and to a high standard.
“I have received information that the channels were laid poorly. If this fact is confirmed, all irrigation channels that do not meet the requirements must be replaced. The development of the Burgondin massif is one of the priority directions of the Government in strengthening the border area and improving the infrastructure of the Batken region. A new settlement is planned to be built here, where land plots will be allocated for the construction of residential houses for 4,000-6,000 families; additionally, about 3,000 hectares will be irrigated. All necessary conditions for normal living will be created, the settlement will be electrified and provided with drinking water,” noted the head of the government.
On-site, Joomart Otorbaev instructed the leadership of the Batken region to develop criteria for the allocation of land plots.
“These lands should be given to those residents of the Batken region who truly need land plots,” the Prime Minister stated.
Joomart Otorbaev also instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of the Kyrgyz Republic to develop a project for the implementation of a drip irrigation system in the Burgondin massif. He also instructed the relevant agencies to complete all work on time and to a high standard.
After familiarizing himself with the progress of the development of the Burgondin massif, the Prime Minister visited the central market of the city of Batken. Here, the head of the government talked with the residents of Batken, inquiring about food prices, particularly the cost of meat, sugar, flour, vegetables, and the prices of dried Batken apricots. Joomart Otorbaev emphasized the special taste and beneficial properties of Batken apricots and noted the need for cooperation among large farms to ensure exports to the countries of the Customs Union.
