Today, October 28, the first meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Water and Energy Issues was held under the chairmanship of the Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Abdyrahman Mamataliyev.
As noted by Abdyrahman Mamataliyev, “Kyrgyzstan, possessing significant water resources, unfortunately has imperfect legislation in the field of water management.”
“There is an urgent need to develop and formulate recommendations for improving the management system of water and energy resources in order to define the priorities and tasks of state policy. It is necessary to seriously engage in the effective and rational use of water wealth, ensuring the satisfaction of the needs of the population and the agro-industrial complex,” said the Vice Prime Minister at the beginning of the meeting.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Commission instructed all members to prepare their recommendations and proposals as soon as possible for inclusion in the Work Plan of the Interdepartmental Commission on Water and Energy Issues, in order to develop a coordinated mechanism for the activities of state bodies and institutions.
Let us remind you that in accordance with the order of the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic dated October 20, 2014, No. 441, the Interdepartmental Commission on Water and Energy Issues was established, and the Regulation on the Commission was approved.
The main tasks of the Commission are to coordinate the work of state bodies on water and energy issues with neighboring states; to regulate water and energy relations with neighboring states; to develop operational modes for water management facilities and the energy system of the republic, including in conditions of low water availability.
The Commission has the right to: request information and necessary materials from all ministries, administrative departments, organizations, and institutions for the preparation of the issues under consideration; hear information from relevant officials on water and energy issues at its meetings; as well as to involve specialists and scientists to solve tasks related to the regulation of water and energy problems.
