Starting February 1, a law on mandatory housing insurance for citizens will come into effect in Kyrgyzstan.

- All houses must be insured without exception. If the housing is not insured but is damaged or destroyed as a result of a natural disaster, the government will not provide funds for its restoration. If the housing is located in a village, a person will pay 50 soms per month to the insurance company, which amounts to 600 soms per year. In the event of destruction, the homeowner will receive insurance compensation of 500,000 soms, which will be sufficient for restoring their housing, Sariev reported.
The head of the government noted that housing in cities is more expensive than in villages, and therefore the contributions to the insurance company will be higher.
- More than 50% of the population lives in rural areas, and in most cases, their houses are the most vulnerable to destruction in the event of natural disasters. Currently, victims whose houses have been destroyed by natural disasters receive a loan of 200,000 soms from the government. This amount is insufficient for restoring their housing; moreover, the allocated funds will need to be repaid within a certain period, even though the loan is interest-free. In this regard, the law "On Mandatory Housing Insurance" was adopted, concluded the Prime Minister.
