The DPS Service has been abolished in Kyrgyzstan.
- As of yesterday, the DPS has been abolished. There are no traffic police officers anymore; only the patrol service is operating. Its employees will not stop cars but will monitor everything happening on the streets, as is done in the West, - Turganbaev said at a parliamentary meeting on Friday, March 4.
Earlier, Prime Minister Temir Sariev had announced that the structure would be liquidated. Accusing the head of the DPS of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergey Dyachenko, of inaction, he even threatened to dismiss all employees of the department in the republic without exception. However, it was later decided to keep them, merging with another related agency.
- The patrol and road patrol services of the republic will be merged into a single structure for more prompt and effective resolution of issues related to ensuring public safety. One hundred vehicles will be allocated for Bishkek, which will patrol the city around the clock, significantly reducing the response time to road traffic accidents and crimes. Now police officers will arrive at the call within three minutes, - Sariev assured.
Additionally, in many places, live officers will be replaced by thousands of surveillance cameras from the Safe City project, installed at intersections and in crowded areas in the capital and in Osh. The project has been discussed for several years; however, the tender for its implementation was announced at the end of 2015 not in full, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to purchase traffic violation detection complexes using the republican budget and fines collected from violators. The first video cameras have already been launched, and the first fine receipts for violations recorded on tape have already been sent to traffic offenders.
