The Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic will consider a bill on the denunciation of agreements with Russia regarding the construction of hydropower plants.

Following the statement about the need to denounce the agreement and seek new investors for the projects from the head of state, Almazbek Atambayev, Prime Minister Temir Sariyev also spoke on the same topic. He called for the process of terminating the agreements to begin as soon as possible. Finally, last Thursday, January 14, the KR government submitted the draft bill on the denunciation of the agreement for the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 and the Upper Naryn cascade of hydropower plants with Russia to the republic's parliament. It is expected to first be reviewed and refined in parliamentary factions, then considered in relevant committees, and finally brought to the chamber.
However, not all factions agreed to consider the proposed issue. In particular, the "Ata Meken" faction refused.
- As of today, we are not ready to consider this request. We need to thoroughly study this issue and only then begin its consideration, - stated the head of the faction, Omurbek Tekebayev.
It is worth noting that the Russian side – PJSC "RusHydro", according to the press service of this agency, has not received notification of the denunciation of the agreement. Similarly, CJSC "Upper Naryn HPPs", which received over $37 million from "RusHydro" for the implementation of the Upper Naryn cascade project, is continuing to work in this direction.
