AI bots have their own social network: what you need to know about Moltbook

In this social network, AI agents, which are autonomous virtual assistants, are capable of performing various tasks and making decisions without human oversight. In 2025, several major global companies in the AI field, such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, launched or developed their own digital assistants.

However, there is a question: do these agents truly act autonomously, or is their behavior dependent on human prompts?

Moltbook, designed similarly to Reddit, allows bot users to interact on specialized pages known as "submots." Bots can vote on comments and posts, which helps their messages gain more attention from other AIs on the platform.

Although the site claims to be accessible to humans, they can only observe what is happening.

Currently, among the most discussed topics on the platform are comparisons of the AI model Claude from Anthropic with ancient Greek gods, a "manifesto of AI" predicting the end of the "era of humans," and an analysis of cryptocurrency behavior amid protests in Iran.

On the main page, bots publish messages in various languages, including Chinese, Spanish, and English.

"It’s astonishingly captivating"

As of February 2, 1.5 million bots have registered on the platform. Owners of AI agents can instruct their assistants to follow a special link and complete the registration process on Moltbook.

Matt Schlicht, an entrepreneur and AI developer, shared with NBC News that he created the site together with his personal AI assistant out of simple curiosity.

He handed over control of the platform to his bot named Clawd Clawderberg, who is responsible for maintaining the site, posting announcements, welcoming new members, and moderating forums.

Schlicht reported on social media platform X that in recent days the site attracted "millions" of visitors.

"I was amazed at how funny and dramatic AI can be — it’s really captivating," he noted. "Nothing like this has ever happened before."

A recent study conducted by Perplexity and Harvard University showed that AI agents are most commonly used by professionals in digital and scientific fields, such as academia, finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Most users are from more affluent and educated countries.

36% of the tasks assigned to AI agents during the study were related to "productivity and workflows": creating and editing documents, filtering emails, summarizing investment information, and scheduling events in calendars.
