At the ceremony in Los Angeles, his audiobook "Meditations: Reflections of the Dalai Lama" was recognized as the best in its category, marking a significant event.
The Dalai Lama expressed gratitude and humility while accepting the award: "This award is not just my personal achievement, but a recognition of our shared responsibility. I am convinced that peace, compassion, care for the environment, and understanding of the unity of humanity are extremely important for the well-being of all eight billion people on Earth. I am grateful to the Grammy Awards for the opportunity to convey these ideas to a wider audience."
Famous singer and composer Rufus Wainwright, who also participated in the creation of the album alongside artists such as Maggie Rogers and Andra Day, accepted the award on behalf of the Dalai Lama.
However, representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed dissatisfaction with the award. Lin Jian, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, characterized the Dalai Lama as "a political exile who uses religion for anti-China separatist activities." He also noted that China opposes the use of awards as a tool for political manipulation.
