At the Global Summit on Sustainable Development Goals, Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, made an important statement, emphasizing the need to support mountainous regions in international climate policy, as reported by the press service of the government.

Torobaev highlighted that mountain ecosystems are among the most vulnerable to climate change. The melting of glaciers and changes in precipitation, as well as the increase in extreme weather events, pose long-term threats to water resources, agriculture, and energy not only in Central Asia but also beyond its borders.

Kyrgyzstan calls for mountain states and territories to be recognized as special zones for sustainable development, ensuring them priority access to climate financing, adaptation technologies, and monitoring systems.

According to Bakyt Torobaev, the resilience of mountain regions directly impacts the water and food security of millions of people, which requires comprehensive and coordinated solutions at the international level.
