In the Batken region, in the Kadamjay district, there is a village with an interesting name — Zhetim-Döbö, which is part of the city of Aydarken, reports Turmush correspondent.

Local residents share fascinating legends about the origin of this name.

According to one of the stories, in ancient times, there lived a man in these places who possessed a vast fortune, known even in distant countries like Afghanistan, China, and India. He hid his wealth in a cave located in the nearby mountains to protect it from enemies.

In the same village lived an orphan girl, whom the wealthy man took as his wife. He provided her with luxurious clothing, treated her to meat from young lambs, and cared for her, surrounding her with love. Over time, she became his confidante and knew all his secrets,” the residents recount.

“One day, enemies attacked the village, and the girl, trusting them, revealed the location of the hidden treasures. The invaders, finding the riches, were overjoyed, but later, fearing that she might betray them as she did her husband, they killed her. A burial mound was erected at her grave, which was named Zhetim-Döbö. Since then, the area and the village have borne this name,” the locals add.

They also mention another explanation for the name.

“The city of Aydarken is mainly located on a plain, and only one hill rises in its center. Perhaps that is why it was named Zhetim-Döbö, which translates to ‘lonely hill.’

Today, the village of Zhetim-Döbö continues to live its ordinary life, and its residents proudly preserve their traditions and legends about the past,” they concluded.
