Yaks graze freely in high-altitude pastures and demonstrate excellent resilience to extreme conditions. They are capable of surviving and producing in conditions at altitudes ranging from 2000 to 4500 meters, where conventional livestock cannot exist. Given climate change and pasture degradation, the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture considers yak husbandry a promising direction. Yaks can adapt to harsh conditions, including cold, drought, and poor feed, making them particularly important for regions affected by climate change.

Currently, a working group has been established at the National Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Kyrgyz Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Pastures to test white yaks. The work is being conducted at the "Zhaichy" farm named after T. Akmatov in the Ton district.

Farmers Baatyrbek Akmatov from the Ton district and Tashtanbek Akmatov from the Naryn region have been engaged in the breeding of white yaks since 2003. Their efforts have already borne fruit: in 2025, at the "Agrodialog–2025" forum organized by the Ministry, Baatyrbek Akmatov was awarded the title of "Champion" for achievements in white yak breeding. This success is attracting the attention of other farmers to this direction.

The Ministry plans to continue efforts to develop yak husbandry and provide scientific support for breeding programs, as well as assist farmers.
