An avalanche covered a shepherd and 50 sheep in Suusamyr — his partner revealed the details

Residents of the village are actively participating in search and rescue operations after a man was caught under an avalanche in the Suusamyr valley.

According to local residents, two men were herding sheep. "The guy who was moving ahead turned around at some point, and that’s when the avalanche came down. The person who was behind, along with a horse and about 50 sheep, was instantly buried under the snow," the source reports.

Local teenagers are also participating in the search, assisting emergency services workers at the scene. The injured man leaves behind two sons and a daughter; his children are currently working abroad.



According to preliminary data, the avalanche occurred on February 12 at 12:00 on the Boroonduu pasture, located in the upper reaches of the village of Kyzyl-Oy, in the Suusamyr rural area. A local resident, D.A., born in 1967, was buried under the snow along with 50 sheep and one horse.

The report of the incident was received by the emergency situations department of the Jayil district from the head of the village of Kyzyl-Oy. Forces from the Ministry of Emergency Situations were mobilized to organize search and rescue operations.

Today at 06:00, an additional 5 rescuers from the Jumgal district arrived at the scene. Search operations are ongoing, and information will be updated as new data becomes available.
