In Uzbekistan, the introduction of a monetary reward for the most active young readers has been announced. At a meeting with the youth, the country's president voiced this initiative.
Students who not only read the most books but also can deeply comprehend what they have read will be awarded a prize of 10 million sums (817 US dollars).
As part of this program, by the beginning of the new school year, a special collection of the 100 best literary works will be created and distributed to all schools and technical colleges in the country.
Additionally, support is expected for authors. It has been reported that talented writers will be able to receive creative commissions with a monthly payment of 20 million sums (1,634 US dollars) for a year. These measures are aimed at stimulating youth interest in reading and developing contemporary national literature.
