RBC: Telegram will be blocked in Russia in early April

According to information from sources, the decision is final.

In the first days of April, the messenger Telegram will be blocked on the territory of Russia, as RBC reports citing its sources.

Two sources with connections to the Kremlin claim that this decision has already been made. The main reason for the blocking is the increasing cases of recruitment, including minors, for committing illegal acts.

Earlier, the Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media, Maksut Shadayev, stated that the authorities do not intend to restrict the operation of Telegram in the zone of the special military operation. "The decision not to impose restrictions in the SVO zone has been made," he noted at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy on February 18.

Nevertheless, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development expressed hope that in the future, military personnel may switch to other platforms.

This week, it also became known that "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" and "Komsomolskaya Pravda" (KP) are conducting an investigation into a criminal case against Telegram founder Pavel Durov on charges of aiding terrorist activities. Durov believes that the criminal case against him is aimed at "suppressing the right to privacy and freedom of speech."

According to information provided by KP, the Telegram administration did not comply with the requirements of Roskomnadzor and left 1,369 channels, chats, and bots related to child pornography without removal, as well as 3,771 channels dedicated to drugs, 2,666 to suicide, and 2,124 to involving minors in illegal activities. In addition, more than 10,500 channels containing calls for extremism and related to "funding the enemy" also remained online.
