Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, has issued a decree that imposes a ban on the export of cash from the country to EAEU states in amounts exceeding 100,000 dollars. This restriction will come into effect starting in April of this year.

Additionally, the decree also introduces a restriction on the export of gold bars weighing more than 100 grams, although certain exceptions are provided. This ban will take effect in May, as reported by the TASS agency.

The EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

According to the decree, exceptions will apply to the export of funds through certain government-designated air points. To export Russian currency, a bank statement certified by the institution that issued the funds will be required. This document must confirm the withdrawal of cash from the bank account of an individual or legal entity, as well as an individual entrepreneur carrying out the export, as stated in the official document.

Furthermore, starting from May 1 of this year, the ban on the export of gold bars over 100 grams will come into effect, but exceptions are provided for certain cases. These include the possibility of exporting refined gold (gold of 999.9 purity, virtually free of impurities) through Moscow's Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo airports, and Knevichi in Vladivostok, provided there is permission from the Federal Assay Chamber. The export of refined gold bars by individuals to countries outside the EAEU is also permitted, as well as for legal entities and individual entrepreneurs to states not part of the union.

The decree also states that a special procedure for the export of currency and gold bars is being introduced "in order to protect national security and the interests of the country," as well as to counteract "unfriendly actions" from the USA and other countries. The conditions of the document do not apply to the export of cash currency and refined gold bars through credit organizations. The decree came into effect upon its signing on March 25, 2026.
