The TPP-5 project aims to reduce dependence on electricity imported from abroad and increase domestic production volumes, as well as to implement modern production technologies.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources reports that the launch of TPP-5 will have a positive impact on air quality in Ulaanbaatar, particularly due to the elimination of 51,000 chimneys in the ger areas and the introduction of environmentally safe technologies. In particular, the ash and slag generated at the power plant will be stored in designated areas, then compacted and processed.

According to the technical and economic justification of the project, it is planned to accumulate about 300,000 tons of ash and slag annually, which can be used as secondary raw materials for the production of building materials, including cement and concrete. To reduce harmful emissions, the installation of purification systems and desulfurization technologies is also planned, as well as the use of limestone to lower sulfur content. It is expected that the annual consumption of limestone will be 18,615 tons, which will help reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, as well as decrease the incidence of diseases related to air pollution.

In addition to this, the project includes measures to reduce negative environmental impacts, such as modernizing water supply to improve efficiency and implementing technologies for the treatment and reuse of wastewater, as well as closed-loop water supply systems. This will help address water scarcity issues and improve the ecological balance.

In Mongolia, coal-fired power plants remain the main source of electricity, producing over 90% of the total energy volume. In the context of constantly growing energy consumption, it is necessary to create reliable and stable sources, enhance coal combustion efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Thus, the implementation of the TPP-5 project, which is based on modern technologies and environmentally friendly solutions, is crucial for introducing innovations in the energy sector, ensuring sustainable development, and protecting the environment.
