At the first meeting of the 220th session of the lower house of the Japanese parliament, Chairman Fukushiro Nukaga announced the dissolution of the house, which was initiated by the government, reports RIA Novosti.
This decision took effect immediately.
Although the session was planned to last for 150 days, it lasted only 1 minute and 56 seconds.
Prime Minister Sanae Takichi announced on Monday the intention to hold new elections, citing the need to consider the citizens' opinion in light of changes in the ruling coalition.
However, the real goal of the Prime Minister and the leader of the LDP is to leverage the high approval rating of her government to improve the results of the upcoming elections in 2024, aiming to strengthen their position in the lower house, where the ruling coalition has only a slight majority.
The elections are scheduled for February 8.
