President Sadyr Japarov held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi

Today, December 20, in Tokyo, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi as part of his official visit.

During the negotiations, issues of deepening cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres were discussed, as well as opportunities for increasing mutual trade and investments. Topics related to sustainable and "green" energy, personnel training, and expanding cooperation in sports and tourism were also discussed.

The Prime Minister of Japan welcomed the president's visit and emphasized the importance of interaction between the two countries.

She noted the significance of the documents signed during the meetings, including the agreement on the elimination of double taxation and several other agreements with JICA.

Sanae Takahichi expressed readiness for further development of the partnership based on respect for the principles of the rule of law and strengthening cooperation.

President Japarov thanked the Japanese side for the warm hospitality and for the invitation to the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue summit.

He also nostalgically recalled his first visit to Japan in 2023, when the decision was made to begin a new stage of partnership.

The President noted the growth of trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Japan and proposed to activate the work of economic agencies to further strengthen trade and economic cooperation.

He also emphasized the priority of developing sustainable energy and renewable energy sources for Kyrgyzstan.

By 2030, the country plans to significantly increase the volume of "green" electricity production and launch several large energy projects, including the Kambarata HPP-1.

During the meeting, Sadyr Japarov expressed gratitude to Japan for its support in the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan.

He noted the significant results of cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the importance of training programs that help many graduates hold responsible positions. The President expressed hope for an increase in the quota for the JDS scholarship program.

Prime Minister Takahichi also emphasized the need to create an Intergovernmental Commission for further cooperation in trade, economy, culture, and human resource exchange.

In addition, readiness for cooperation in the fields of green energy, information technology, and artificial intelligence was declared.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the possibility of joint work in the area of early warning of natural risks.

President Japarov invited the Prime Minister of Japan to visit Kyrgyzstan on an official visit.

As a result of the meeting, the following documents were signed:

- Joint statement on the development of relations between Kyrgyzstan and Japan aimed at creating mutually beneficial cooperation;

- Agreement on the elimination of double taxation concerning income taxes and prevention of tax evasion;

- Cooperation program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for 2026-2027;

- Agreement concluded by exchanging notes on the project "Strengthening the capacity of the training center for the operation and maintenance of electrical networks in Kyrgyzstan" and grant agreement on this project between the cabinets of ministers;

- Agreement concluded by exchanging notes on the project "Social and Economic Development Program (acquisition of ICT and scientific equipment for the Kyrgyz-Japanese Human Development Center)" and grant agreement on this project;

- Agreement on the project "Improvement of medical equipment in referral hospitals in the southern region of Kyrgyzstan" and grant agreement;

- Agreement on the project "Reconstruction of the bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek-Osh highway" and grant agreement;

- Agreement on the project "Social and Economic Development Program (provision of two medical containers/diagnostic mobile units)" and grant agreement;

- Agreement on the project "Scholarship program for human resource development (JDS program)" and grant agreement.
