The Japanese government is preparing to hold the first summit where representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan will meet. The meeting is expected to take place in Tokyo in December 2025, although exact dates have not yet been specified. This information was published by Japanese media citing official sources.

For two decades, the five Central Asian republics have actively participated in negotiations with Japan at the ministerial level.

According to NHK, these countries maintain strong ties with Russia, as they were previously part of the Soviet Union. It is also noted that China is increasing its influence in this region.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi hopes that the upcoming summit will be an opportunity to strengthen ties with resource-rich countries, as well as to enhance economic security and develop cooperation in various fields.

The summit scheduled for August 2024 in Kazakhstan, timed to the 20th anniversary of the "Central Asia - Japan" dialogue, was canceled at the last moment due to a warning about a potential strong earthquake in Japan.
