As reported by Reuters, Sanae Takachi, the Prime Minister of Japan, plans to nominate Donald Trump, the President of the United States, for the Nobel Peace Prize.

According to Takachi, "the world has become more peaceful in such a short period of time," and she expressed her admiration and inspiration from Trump's actions.
According to information published in The New York Post, the Japanese Prime Minister also noted that Trump's nomination is related to the year 2026. A White House representative informed the publication that she has already notified the President of her decision and provided him with the relevant documents.

The announcement of Trump's nomination came after leaders signed documents concerning a "new golden age" in relations between Japan and the United States, as well as a memorandum of understanding on strategic investments.

The parties also agreed on a framework program to ensure the supply of critically important minerals and rare earth metals. Trump is on an official visit to Japan starting October 27.

In 2025, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to opposition Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado. In a comment on this, the White House noted that Trump will continue to strive for peace agreements and the cessation of wars, adding that "the Nobel Committee has demonstrated that politics takes precedence over peace."
