At a press conference in the White House, Trump stated that he has not yet made a final decision regarding the meeting with Putin in Budapest, adding that he intends to provide a final answer within two days. “I wouldn’t want to waste time,” he explained his position.
After a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin on October 16, Donald Trump expressed his readiness to meet with the Russian leader in Budapest. According to him, the summit could take place within two weeks. However, on October 21, Western media reported, citing "high-ranking sources," about a temporary suspension of preparations for the meeting between the US and Russian presidents.
