
Today, March 16, 2015, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev met with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in the city of Saint Petersburg.
During the meeting, the heads of the two states discussed current issues of Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation in trade and economics, investment, fuel and energy, cultural and humanitarian, and other areas.
President Almazbek Atambayev and President Vladimir Putin also reviewed the progress of joint projects and exchanged views on aspects of bilateral interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Touching on issues of upcoming economic integration, President Vladimir Putin noted that the ultimate goal is to adapt the economy of Kyrgyzstan to the economies of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Armenia. "Undoubtedly, all of this is a solvable task, and the sooner we do it, the better," said the Russian President.
For his part, President Almazbek Atambayev emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is focused on joining the Eurasian Economic Union within the previously established timelines. "We still have many people who remember when there were no customs borders. And of course, today we have a good opportunity to discuss the accumulated issues," said Almazbek Atambayev.
The heads of state noted the importance of further strengthening and developing multifaceted Kyrgyz-Russian cooperation.
