At the event dedicated to the Diwali holiday at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump made an important statement about a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that he advised his Indian counterpart "not to start a war with Pakistan."

“I just spoke with your Prime Minister. We had a wonderful conversation where we discussed trade issues and touched on the topic that wars with Pakistan should not be started. It is worth noting, as we have no conflict between India and Pakistan — that is really good,” Trump emphasized.

Modi confirmed the fact of the phone conversation with Trump, expressing gratitude for the call. In his message on X, he noted: “I hope that our two great democracies will continue to illuminate the world with hope,” without specifying whether the issue of Pakistan was discussed.
According to recent events, relations between Washington and New Delhi have deteriorated after the U.S. raised tariffs on Indian exports to 50% in August and accused India of supporting Russia's war in Ukraine by purchasing oil from Moscow. Despite the negotiations that have begun, a trade agreement between India and the U.S. has still not been signed.

Earlier, Trump claimed that his efforts contributed to the cessation of a four-day conflict between India and Pakistan in May, when fierce fighting raged in Kashmir. He asserts that after his intervention, the parties agreed to an "immediate ceasefire."

The Pakistani authorities support Trump's version and have twice nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, stating that without his intervention, millions of people could have suffered. However, India denies the claims that the conflict was resolved through the mediation of a third party.
