The EU does not recognize the results of the referendums in Eastern Ukraine.
The European Union does not recognize the results of the referendums that were held yesterday in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This was stated by the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy at a briefing, as reported by a correspondent from RBC-Ukraine.
"We do not recognize the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol just as we do not recognize the so-called referendum that took place yesterday," Van Rompuy emphasized.
He noted that the only elections recognized by the EU are the presidential elections in Ukraine on May 25.
The head of the European Council also expressed confidence that Ukraine needs a nationwide dialogue to organize a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous state.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted that on May 14, issues such as amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, decentralization of power, real fight against corruption, economic development, as well as humanitarian policy (issues of language, history, culture) will be discussed at a round table in Kyiv.
