On his platform Truth Social, Trump announced that new tariffs would be added to the existing rates. This decision was made just two hours after the conclusion of negotiations with the Canadian side.

According to the president, the reason for this move was the promotional materials from the Canadian province of Ontario, which used archival footage of Ronald Reagan. In these recordings, Reagan expresses criticism of tariffs and their negative impact on the economy.

The Reagan Foundation sharply criticized this advertisement, claiming that it distorted the meaning of the 40th president's statements and was used without the consent of the rights holders. According to the foundation, the Canadian side did not seek permission to use this material.

President Trump also pointed out that such behavior is an attempt to exert pressure on the U.S. Supreme Court, which is currently reviewing the legality of the tariffs imposed by his administration against several countries, including Canada.

“I am increasing tariffs by 10% due to their distortion of facts and hostile actions,” he stated.

Recall that in February, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian goods, and in the summer raised it to 35% for certain categories. He also suspended trade negotiations with the Canadian government in June.

Currently, the U.S. Supreme Court continues to examine the legality of these trade measures.
