On Wednesday, Trump announced new sanctions against Russia for the first time during his second term, adding the country's largest oil companies, such as Rosneft and Lukoil, to the list of restrictions.
The next day, Putin commented that these sanctions "are serious and will certainly have certain consequences, but will not have a significant impact on our economy."
In response, Trump noted: "It's great that he thinks so. In six months, I'll tell you how things are going. Let's see how it all unfolds."
