The Minister of Defense of Pakistan, Khawaja Asif, stated that in the event of unsuccessful peace negotiations with Afghanistan, the country may initiate an "open war." This was reported by several news agencies.
According to the minister, Pakistan has two options: if an agreement is not reached, the country will be forced to enter into open confrontation. Nevertheless, Khawaja Asif expressed hope that Afghanistan is also interested in peace.
Negotiations between the two countries began on October 25 in Istanbul.
The situation escalated on October 9, when Pakistan and Afghanistan began mutual attacks, including bombings and the seizure of checkpoints, which lasted for six days. The conflict was paused for 48 hours, after which the parties agreed to dialogue to resolve the dispute. The deterioration of the situation occurred against the backdrop of accusations of harboring terrorists from both sides.
On October 13, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, noting that he is well-versed in matters of peace and has heard about the clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but is currently focused on resolving another conflict.
