Snow Leopard. Symbol of the Heavenly Mountains

Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 10:30 AM
Venue: NABU branch office in the Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek, Tabachnaya St., 24
Purpose – to draw attention to the problem of the unique animal, the snow leopard: why does poaching of leopards not disappear and what can be done to ensure that this creature does not become extinct in nature?

At the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, A. Sh. Atambayev, a World Forum for the Conservation of the Snow Leopard was held in Bishkek on October 22-23 last year. Representatives from 12 countries (Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) were invited to the World Forum.

This forum provided a powerful impetus for the development of further cooperation with the global community. The unification of political leaders from the snow leopard range countries for joint work and the implementation of adopted decisions.

However, in the Kyrgyz Republic, the current regional population of the snow leopard is in a critically endangered state and requires international support and protection.

To promote the ideas of the Bishkek Declaration and to implement elements of the Global Problem of Snow Leopard Conservation, October 23 has been designated as Snow Leopard Day.

In this regard, a ceremonial event is planned for October 21 at 10:30 AM, featuring akyns and manaschi, who will address contemporary ecological issues, particularly the conservation of the snow leopard population, through their art.
