Today, October 23, the International Snow Leopard Day is celebrated for the first time on a global level. President Sadyr Japarov posted a message on his Facebook page in connection with this event.

According to the head of state, this day is a special source of pride for him, as the initiative was proposed in Kyrgyzstan.

“A year ago, our people, whose fate is intertwined with the majestic mountains and this amazing animal, put forward an important initiative. And the world heard us! The adoption of the UN resolution proclaiming the International Snow Leopard Day unanimously is not just a diplomatic success; it is a testament that the preservation of natural heritage unites humanity, transcending borders,” Japarov emphasized.

The snow leopard is an integral part of Kyrgyzstan. It symbolizes the spirit of our mountains and serves as the guardian of our inaccessible peaks, embodying resilience, loyalty, and freedom. Like our people, this predator remains true to its icy home even in the harshest times. “We, the children of the great mountains, draw inspiration and strength from the peaks that reach for the sky,” the president added.

In addition, he called on citizens to treat the environment and animals with care.

“Our proposal to the UN was a logical step forward, as it concerns not only a rare species that is endangered but also a people that is part of this nature. Protecting the snow leopard is also protecting our identity. Preserving its habitat is safeguarding the sources that provide water for a third of the Earth's population!”

Today serves not only as a reason to admire the snow leopard but also as a global call to humanity to show responsibility and conscience. It appeals to all countries and peoples to unite for the protection of this unique animal and its fragile ecosystem.

On this day, Kyrgyzstan is initiating a global action in honor of the snow leopard, the guardian of our mountains. Its existence is connected to our ecosystems, cultural heritage, and future. On October 23, we dedicate 23 minutes in its honor—for walks, physical exercises, or movement in the fresh air. Protecting nature is our sport, and defending the snow leopard is our common victory!” concluded Sadyr Japarov.
