President Sadyr Japarov congratulated the people of Kyrgyzstan and friends of the country on his social media page on International Snow Leopard Day, noting that this day symbolizes the pride of the Kyrgyz people and their contribution to the protection of nature at a global level.

“Dear compatriots!

Friends of Kyrgyzstan around the world!

Today, the international community celebrates International Snow Leopard Day for the first time. For me personally, this event holds special significance, as the idea for its establishment was born on the land of Kyrgyzstan and recognized at the global level!”

A year ago, the Kyrgyz people, whose fate is inextricably linked with the majestic mountains and the snow leopard, put forward an initiative that was heard by the world. The unanimous adoption of the UN resolution to establish International Snow Leopard Day became not only a diplomatic success but also a vivid example of humanity's unity in preserving natural heritage.

The snow leopard is a symbol of Kyrgyzstan. It embodies the spirit of our mountains, a protector of hard-to-reach peaks, a living expression of our freedom and devotion to our homeland. Like our people, it is loyal to its icy summits and does not abandon them even in the harshest times. We, the inhabitants of the highlands, draw inspiration and strength from the peaks that reach for the skies.

Since ancient times, our ancestors, like the snow leopard, preserved their values. Their pursuit of freedom, resilience, and patience helped them overcome difficult times and achieve victory in the most challenging historical situations. We, the heirs of a great people, use our strength not for conquests but to protect our Motherland, traditions, and families. We will remain faithful to our roots and continue to develop.

The initiative to recognize International Snow Leopard Day at the UN was a logical step. It concerns not only a rare species on the brink of extinction but also a people that is inextricably linked to this nature. Protecting the snow leopard is protecting ourselves. Preserving its habitat is crucial for ensuring water resources for a third of the planet's population!

Today is not only an opportunity to admire the beauty of the snow leopard but also a call to humanity for the necessity of responsibility and conscience. An appeal to all countries and peoples of the world to unite efforts to protect this unique animal and its fragile ecosystem.

On Snow Leopard Day, Kyrgyzstan is leading a global campaign in honor of this guardian of our mountains. Its existence is closely tied to our ecosystem, heritage, and future.

On October 23, we symbolically dedicate 23 minutes to the snow leopard — for walks, physical exercises, or outdoor activities.

Protecting nature is our common goal, and protecting the snow leopard is our common victory!” — states the president's address.
