On the TV channel "Russia 1," Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, spoke about the fact that the U.S. may have considered three levels of sanctions against Russia, from which Donald Trump chose the medium-level option.

Peskov noted that the information published in American media about the choice of sanctions pressure may be true. It was previously reported that the most severe measures would concern the industrial sector and the country's leadership, while the medium package would affect the energy sector, and softer restrictions were also considered.

According to him, the new restrictions have negatively impacted plans to improve Russian-American relations, although Moscow does not intend to abandon these efforts.

Regarding the cancellation of the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest, Peskov said it is inappropriate to talk about a cancellation. He emphasized that both sides understand the importance of holding the summit in the near future.

Peskov explained: "Presidents cannot just meet for no reason. They have tasked Lavrov and Rubio with preparing for the meeting. This process takes time and serious preparation."

It should be noted that the exact dates for the negotiations have not yet been agreed upon, and the preparation process is in full swing. Peskov added that the American president himself said that the meeting is currently premature, and Putin agreed with this viewpoint.

He also noted that Trump's sincere desire to resolve the conflict situation evokes positive emotions; however, it will take a lot of time to address deep disagreements.

Earlier, Trump had already announced the postponement of his meeting with the Russian president in Budapest but left the possibility of holding it in the future open.
