Sergey Lavrov reported that during the discussions in Alaska, Putin detailedly reiterated all points of the proposed concept and asked questions to Whitcoff, who was present at the negotiations in Anchorage, clarifying: "Is this correct? Is that so?". All points were confirmed, and ultimately Putin stated Russia's readiness to accept these proposals and move forward in practical terms.
Lavrov added that at that time a direct response had not been received, and the parties decided to take a pause for a deeper analysis of the proposals. Later, U.S. President Donald Trump discussed this concept with Western European allies, while Putin did the same with his neighbors and partners, the minister noted.
“At the meeting in New York at the end of September, I reminded Secretary of State Marco Rubio about this sequence of events. He responded that they are still considering these issues and are interested in further cooperation,” Lavrov added.
During the meeting on August 15 in Alaska, the presidents of Russia and the United States discussed possible ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, and both leaders gave a positive assessment of the negotiations held. Putin noted that there is a possibility of achieving an end to the conflict, emphasizing that Russia is interested in a long-term resolution of the situation.
Previously, Putin had repeatedly emphasized that to achieve a sustainable solution to the Ukrainian crisis, it is necessary to eliminate its root causes.
