At the First Central Asia – Japan Dialogue Summit taking place in Tokyo, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, made an important statement.
According to the president's press service, in his speech, Japarov emphasized the significance of this summit for the development of partnership relations between Central Asia and Japan.
“Since the establishment of this dialogue, our region has become a self-sufficient area, demonstrating stable economic growth and development across all sectors. In the context of positive dynamics, it is important to establish effective and long-term forms of interaction,” the president noted.
Sadyr Japarov also confirmed support for Japan's initiative to focus on three key areas: sustainable development, communications, and human resource development.
He added that the issues of climate change and sustainable development pose serious challenges for Kyrgyzstan, especially as a mountainous country. The melting of glaciers, reduction of water resources, and increased seismic activity threaten both the population and infrastructure. In this regard, he proposed to jointly create a regional early warning system for hazards with Japan and establish data exchange for predicting natural threats.
The president emphasized Kyrgyzstan's commitment to a "green" economy and the development of renewable energy sources, highlighting the "Kambar-Ata-1" hydropower plant as a strategically important project. He expressed interest in transferring Japanese environmentally friendly technologies and exploring new forms of financing for environmental initiatives.
Japarov reminded of the UN initiative for the Decade of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions from 2023 to 2027 and invited international partners to participate in the Second Global Mountain Summit in Bishkek.
Noting the high degree of cooperation with Japan, the president emphasized the significant contribution of the Japanese side to the sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan and invited investors to implement the eco-city project "Asman."
The head of state also noted Kyrgyzstan's strategic geographical position in the center of Eurasia, which opens new opportunities for the country to become an important hub for transport and logistics flows. He stated the need to improve connectivity, modernize infrastructure, and implement intelligent transport systems, which would reduce business costs and strengthen the country's position in regional logistics.
Sadyr Japarov focused on the development of road and rail infrastructure, civil aviation, and transport and logistics centers, as well as on expanding Kyrgyzstan's participation in international transport routes.
Moreover, he expressed readiness to cooperate with Japan in the field of information technology, proposing to use the country's High-Tech Park as a platform for joint digital projects and training IT specialists.
The president also noted that human resource development is one of the priority areas in cooperation with Japan.
He highly appreciated the results of the JDS program, whose graduates actively contribute to the development of Kyrgyzstan, and expressed a desire to increase the number of educational quotas in leading Japanese universities, especially in the fields of information technology and engineering.
Sadyr Japarov added that the development of tourism plays an important role in strengthening relations between Kyrgyzstan and Japan. He emphasized that the country's rich cultural heritage, located at the crossroads of great trade routes, as well as the preserved elements of Buddhist culture, have special appeal for Japanese tourists. The president expressed readiness to cooperate in preserving cultural diversity and creating a specialized museum complex.
In conclusion of his speech, Sadyr Japarov noted that Kyrgyzstan is actively developing its tourist infrastructure, aiming to create a year-round tourist season, mentioning the implementation of the large project "Ala-Too Resort" and inviting Japanese partners to participate in its development.
