As a result of the snowstorm that hit the United States, the number of fatalities has risen to at least 34 people, according to data from USA Today. Earlier information from the Associated Press indicated 30 victims, which was a result of the sharp drop in temperatures.
According to the publication, "at least 34 fatalities related to the severe storm have been recorded."
More than half of the total number of deaths were victims of hypothermia, as well as accidents related to snow removal work or prolonged exposure to the outdoors.
The National Weather Service warns of upcoming heavy snowfall and dangerous ice from eastern Texas to North Carolina. A state of emergency has been declared in 21 states. In New York, the closure of public schools is scheduled for Monday. US President Donald Trump described the snowfall as "historic."
