The tragedy occurred on Thursday at Praia del Chifre beach, located in Olinda, in northeastern Brazil. According to Kazinform, a 13-year-old boy became a victim of a shark attack. Information provided by the medical services of the state of Pernambuco indicates that the boy was swimming with friends despite the warning signs about frequent shark attacks in the area. Witnesses of the incident claim that the shark attacked him from behind, inflicting serious injuries. The victim was taken to a hospital in Olinda, where he unfortunately died from blood loss.
According to the State Committee for Monitoring Shark Incidents, there have been 82 recorded shark attacks in Pernambuco since 1992, of which 27 ended tragically for people.
Local authorities noted that signs warning against swimming due to the high likelihood of shark attacks have been installed on the beaches of Recife and Olinda. These places are particularly popular among tourists during the carnival.
