According to Rospotrebnadzor, a woman who contracted chikungunya fever returned to Moscow after a vacation in the Seychelles. The situation is currently under control, as reported by TASS.
The infected individual was hospitalized immediately upon arrival in the country, and tests confirmed the presence of the chikungunya virus.
Rospotrebnadzor notes that the risk of spreading this infection within Russia is extremely low, as it is transmitted only through the bites of infected mosquitoes, not from person to person.
Chikungunya fever is endemic in several regions, including countries in sub-Saharan Africa, South and Central America, Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific region, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Indian subcontinent. Travelers planning visits to these areas are advised to use repellents, wear long sleeves and pants, and install mosquito nets and bed canopies.
