In Thailand, the sale of alcohol will be temporarily banned due to elections

In connection with the upcoming early parliamentary elections, a temporary nationwide ban on the sale of alcohol will be introduced in Thailand. This information was provided by the country's tourist police, TASS reports.

The restriction will come into effect on February 7 at 6:00 PM and will last for 24 hours. During this period, the sale of all alcoholic beverages will be prohibited throughout the country.

The ban applies to minimarkets, supermarkets, restaurants, nightclubs, and any events where alcohol is sold.

The police urge compliance with the law, warning of possible consequences for violations: up to six months of imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht (approximately $314), or both penalties simultaneously. Tourists and locals are expected to understand the measures implemented to ensure fairness and tranquility during the voting process.

The early elections for the House of Representatives of the Thai Parliament are scheduled for February 8, 2026. This decision was made after the dissolution of the lower house at the initiative of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. A referendum concerning the development of a new constitution for the country will also take place on election day.
