The incident occurred on the morning of October 20, when museum staff arrived at work and discovered the entrance door had been broken into. Inside, a display case containing gold and silver coins was smashed, and some of the coins were stolen.
It is specified that the stolen collection includes 1,633 silver coins and 319 gold coins, which were minted between 1790 and 1840. These coins were found in 2011 during the museum's restoration.
Other exhibition items remained untouched. Currently, museum workers are counting the number of stolen coins.
It is worth noting that the robbery in Langres occurred just a day after a similar incident in Paris, where masked criminals stole nine items from the imperial collection of the Louvre, including jewelry belonging to Napoleon and his wife Josephine. The total value of the stolen items amounted to an impressive 88 million euros.
