A check of pawnshops in Karakol was conducted, organized by the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic.
This check was initiated by the order of the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and head of the GKNB, Kamchybek Tashiev.
As a result of the investigative and operational activities, it was established that some pawnshops did not comply with the requirements of the law "On the Activities of Pawnshops" and the minimum conditions defined by government resolution No. 353, dated July 8, 2017. In particular, documents that cannot be processed in a pawnshop, such as civil passports, birth certificates, and state acts of private ownership, were accepted as collateral.
As a result of the inspection, 16 pawnshops were sealed, and checks of other institutions are ongoing.
In addition, conversations were held with employees and owners of pawnshops, during which the norms prohibiting the inflation of interest rates were explained. We remind you that according to the KR Law "On the Limitation of Usurious Activities," the maximum rate should not exceed 30%.
The GKNB urges citizens to be vigilant and carefully check documents when obtaining loans and transactions involving property.
In case of fraudulent actions by pawnshop employees, including the forced seizure of pledged property, it is recommended to contact the GKNB office for the Issyk-Kul region by phone: (03922) 5-11-80.
